TWO HONOURABLE MENTIONS IN THE IAPBP 2017 BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION!
This year was my first year entering the International Association of Professional Birth Photographers Image of the Year Competition. The annual competition by IAPBP celebrates the beauty of birth and the skill of birth photographers around the globe in four categories – labor, delivery, birth details and postpartum. The IAPBP is the world's number one birth association with more than 1,200 members in 42 countries.
I entered on a whim. I wanted to contribute to the power and beauty of birth photography on an international scale; a greater cause than just my little business here in Perth, Australia. Birth Photography has the potential to change the way that we [as a society] view birth - a topic that I am obviously very passionate about.
When I saw the gallery of images that had been entered I was blown away. So many raw, emotive and inspiring images depicting the power and beauty of birth. There were photos that made me smile, photos that made me cry and photos that took my breath away. What a privilege it is to have my work featured amongst such international calibre.

I was beyond speechless when the results were announced and I had received not one, but TWO Honourable Mentions!! With just 21 images out of over 600 entries receiving honourable mentions, it is quite the achievement. I'm feeling extremely proud and still just a bit shocked!
I am forever thankful to the two beautiful families that allowed me to share their birth photos and enter them into this prestigious competition. You can view the gallery of all competition entries by clicking here.
Since the results were released earlier this week a number of online media outlets have featured the top images, including: Huffington Post, People Magazine, Cosmopolitan, BabyCenter, Natural Parent Magazine, Good Housekeeping, and The Healthy Mummy.
